Lexus Design Award 2016 receives strong interest from UAE-based artists

11 entries from the UAE have been shortlisted for this year’s 4th Lexus Design Award

Dubai, 18 November 2015: Following last year’s amazing win of the first ever Lexus Design Award Grand Prix title by UAE-based artists - Italians Emanuela Corti and Ivan Parati - a total of 11 entries from the UAE have been shortlisted for this year’s 4th Lexus Design Award in a further testament to the growing popularity of the competition, which was first launched in 2013 to foster the growth of ideas that can contribute to society. 

The UAE entries among those which have qualified from around the world, will be vying for one of the 12 finalists places whose works will be showcased at the internationally renowned Milan Design Week 2016*. 

“We have witnessed great response during Lexus Design Award 2016 roadshow in the UAE and we are very pleased to see that the number of UAE-based talents who qualified to compete on international stage has significantly increased in comparison to last year’s edition,” said Chris Buxton, General Manager of Lexus Sales at Al-Futtaim Motors. 

“Following on the footsteps of last year’s Grand Prix winning project from the UAE we are confident that the UAE entries embody innovative designs and unique interpretations of this year’s theme Anticipation.”

The top four of the 12 international finalists will develop prototypes of their designs while receiving support from globally recognized design mentors. The finalists will present their designs in the Lexus booth at the Milan Design Week, after which the Grand Prix winner will be selected from among the four prototypes through final review by the judges.

Previous Lexus Design Award winners are actively displaying their talents around the world. Examples include UAE-based Emanuela Corti and Ivan Parati's Sense-Wear, exhibited in Tokyo and Moscow alongside the works of other 2015 finalists. 2015 panel finalist Yuzo Azu is now preparing his INSTAMP for commercial release at Lexus dealerships in Japan. Sebastian Scherer, whose work Iris was named one of the winners in 2014, has launched his own design label and exhibited at Milan Design Week 2015.
