Any UAE residents considering a career in media, advertising or events can now apply for a number of scholarships launched today by one of the country’s leading vocational training institutes.
From next term, beginning September 28, 2015, two students will be able to study completely free and others heavily discounted at EMDI Institute of Media and Communication thanks to the new scholarship programme announced by the Dubai Knowledge Village-based campus.
The first of the two full scholarships will cover all study costs and is aimed at assisting students from any background pursue their dream career. While the other full scholarships are also open to anyone but will be awarded based solely on academic competence and past achievement.
Two part-scholarships will cover 50 per cent of the students’ course fees, and a further five part-scholarships will reduce the students’ fees by 25 per cent.
The Events and Wedding Planning, Advertising and Design, PR and Digital Media courses run over one year from September to July with students earning a Professional Diploma level qualification. In 2014, 85 per cent of EMDI graduates were employed in their chosen industry within three months of graduation.
EMDI Founder and Executive Director, Nowshir Engineer, said the new scholarship programme is a key part of the institution’s ongoing commitment to furthering the education and future employment opportunities of UAE high school leavers, college-aged youths and working adults looking for a career change.
“Education is the foundation to a successful and prosperous life,” he said. “By making these scholarships available we will be changing the lives of two worthy young people full of potential and assisting them to pursue exciting new careers in the fields of media, advertising and events.
“The way we have structured our courses means these students will enter the workforce with real hands-on experience of their industry. The majority of our faculty and lecturers actively hold senior full-time positions in advertising, PR, events and media agencies, so our students are interacting and networking daily with future employers, while learning the latest developments and industry trends from some of the best minds in their fields.”
EMDI was established in India in 2002 and launched in Dubai Knowledge Village in 2004, training students in events, advertising, PR and journalism, as well as radio and wedding planning through a combination of full and part time courses for both students and working professionals. All courses are taught by industry professionals and all students are entered into internship programmes with agencies, live events and media titles to help build experience and aid in securing ongoing employment after graduation.
The EMDI scholarship programmes for the 2015-2016 courses are open to anyone with a valid visa and a minimum of twelve years of formal education.
