ADFD Highlights Global Water Security Efforts During World Water Week

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, 27 August 2026: In line with World Water Week 2026, Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) reaffirmed its commitment to advancing global water security as a foundation for stronger communities, sustainable development and long-term economic progress.

In the context of World Water Week's "Water for People and Progress" theme, ADFD highlights water's role in supporting communities and sustainable development. Through development financing, strategic partnerships and innovative approaches, the Fund supports efforts to strengthen water systems and expand access to sustainable water resources.

As part of this commitment, ADFD launched the Abu Dhabi Global Water Platform, a development initiative focused on mobilising financing and partnerships to advance innovative solutions to global water challenges. The Platform aims to mobilise USD 2 billion between 2026 and 2030, including USD 1 billion committed by ADFD, with the ambition of supporting access to safe water services for approximately 10 million people worldwide.

The initiative supports UN Sustainable Development Goal 6, which calls for universal access to clean water and sanitation, and reflects the strategic importance of water within ADFD's 2030 Strategy.

H.E. Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of ADFD, said: "Water security is fundamental to sustainable development and to the progress of communities and economies. Through the Abu Dhabi Global Water Platform, we are bringing together financing, partnerships and innovation to strengthen international cooperation, support high-impact projects and advance innovative solutions that help communities address current and future water challenges."

Through collaboration with partner governments and international development institutions, ADFD continues to support sustainable water projects, facilitate knowledge exchange and strengthen development impact.

During World Water Week, ADFD underscores the importance of continued international cooperation and innovative financing to ensure water can serve both people and progress, contributing to more resilient and sustainable communities worldwide.
