Statement by H.E. Dr. Ahmad Saeed bin Meshar, SLC Secretary General, on Emirati Women’s Day

27 August 2026 - Emirati Women’s Day represents a distinguished national occasion that reflects the UAE’s steadfast commitment to empowering Emirati women and providing them with the support, opportunities, and resources needed to fulfil their aspirations and contribute to the nation’s progress. This commitment embodies the forward-looking vision of the UAE’s wise leadership and its firm belief in the vital role women play in driving sustainable development and shaping the future.

The dedication of a national occasion to celebrate the contributions and achievements of Emirati women carries forward the legacy of women’s empowerment established by the UAE Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and his brothers, the Founding Fathers, who laid the foundations for a development journey centred on investing in people and fostering the active participation of the sons and daughters of this nation in shaping its future.

Today, our nation continues to consolidate its global leadership in advancing women’s empowerment, with the unwavering support, close follow-up, and wise guidance of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the Mother of the Nation, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF).

Guided by the vision and directives of the Mother of the Nation, we are marking this year’s celebration under the theme ‘We Emerge Stronger and Better’. This highlights the importance of collective efforts by the UAE’s sons and daughters in advancing the nation’s development journey.

The empowerment of Emirati women is built on strong foundations, including a deeply rooted societal culture that recognises the importance of women’s participation and leadership across key sectors, supported by a comprehensive legislative framework that safeguards women’s rights and ensures equal opportunities for women and men.

On this occasion, we extend our highest congratulations and sincerest wishes to H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the pioneer of Emirati women’s empowerment. We also express our pride in the achievements of Emirati women, who continue, day after day, to build on their distinguished record of excellence and further contribute to strengthening the global leadership of the United Arab Emirates.
