Intelligent Partners organizes Child Protection and Bullying workshops in Dubai in collaboration with Kingston University

With the ratification of the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child in 1997, and more recently with the drafting of the Child Rights Law, UAE has consistently emphasized the vision to make the nation a secure and safe place for its children. In a show of solidarity with the federal initiatives in this area and the global child abuse month, Intelligent Partners recently organized teacher training workshops on this topic. The Child Protection and Safeguarding workshop was held on April 29, 2014 at the Emirates International School – Meadows, Emirates Hills, Dubai. The Bullying – Preventing and Responding workshop was held at the same venue on April 30, 2014. Both the workshops were facilitated by Ms. Anne Rawlings and Ms. Daryl Maisey from Kingston University, UK. Ms. Rawlings is Associate Professor at the university and Project Director for the Institute of Child Centred Interprofessional Practice (ICCIP). Ms. Maisey is Director of Studies, Early Years and Associate Professor at Kingston University. The facilitators brought with them years of practitioner experience, but also latest research and global best practices on the topic.

The workshops were well attended by staff from several prominent schools in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Muscat including Repton Schools, Deira International School, The British School – Al Khubairat, and American British Academy. These were highly interactive workshops and involved lectures, activities and case discussions. This was also a unique opportunity for participants to understand practices followed by other schools in the region. Participants left feeling empowered and hopeful of positive action; in the words of one of the participants “I came looking for answers….but I now realize that I am part of the answers”.
