March 2, 2014 : Student delegates of ALHOSN University were praised by participants and visitors to the Qasr al Hosn Festival at Abu Dhabi’s historic ‘Qasr al Hosn’ fort. The young ambassadors were commended for their extensive knowledge of the iconic fort – the symbolic birthplace of Abu Dhabi – and their enthusiastic discussions on the heritage and culture surrounding the site. The group assisted in festival activities from February 20 to 24, 2014.
Prior to the festival, which ran from February 20 to March 1, 2014, the ALHOSN delegates (Saleema Al Hajeri, Shamma Al Zaidi, Hind Al Kurbi and Aya Ali) underwent extensive training on the rich history of the venue, the shows and attractions for this year’s edition, and the proper way to assist guests. They formed an elite group of students chosen from among local universities to act as ambassadors during the festival.
ALHOSN University has a great affinity with the festival as it is named after Qasr al Hosn. The fort was the first permanent structure built in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and was the home of the Royal Family of the Al Nahyans for generations. The annual festival celebrates the more than 250-year existence of the fort and colorful Emirati and Abu Dhabi history through various fun and educational activities.
“We are very proud of the positive response to our student delegates during theQasr al Hosn Festival. Our energetic volunteers excellently represented our university’s philosophy of ‘global knowledge with local vision.’ It was also a great event for us to celebrate the historic site we named our university in honor of. We will continue to encourage our students to look back at their culture and heritage so that they do not lose sight of their identity while they pursue personal and professional growth,” said Dr. Adel Khelifi, Provost for Academic Affairs, ALHOSN University.
Named after Abu Dhabi’s historic ALHOSN Palace, ALHOSN University was opened in 2005 to students of all nationalities in response to growing local demand for high-quality, value-based education. The University currently offers 18 undergraduate and 11 postgraduate programs under the Faculties of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Business, and Arts and Social Sciences.
