Abu Dhabi-UAE: 19 February, 2014 – Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, an independent, research-driven graduate-level university focused on advanced energy and sustainable technologies, today announced that it will open its doors to ambitious undergraduates with a passion for innovation and the potential to become successful scientists and researchers in future energy sectors.
The Masdar Institute ‘Open Day 2014’ is scheduled to be held on Saturday 22 February, 2014 at the campus premises at Masdar City in Abu Dhabi. The day-long event will include presentations by Heads of Departments and Heads of the Institute Centers for Research (iCenters), faculty members, research staff and current students. Prospective students and accompanying family members will gain an insight into Masdar Institute’s holistic academic, research and outreach offerings, scholarship options as well as ‘on- and off-campus’ student facilities. A whole set of engaging and fun activities are also lined up for general visitors.
Dr Fred Moavenzadeh, President, Masdar Institute, said: “Through this event we are reaching out to enthusiastic undergraduates and practicing professionals who are keen to develop themselves into research scientists and world-changing innovators. With the support of the UAE leadership, Masdar Institute has developed into a world-class academic institution that can help turn the country’s talented youth into high-tech researchers and inventers in critical science and technology. Open Day will show the UAE’s ambitious dreamers how we can help provide them a rewarding career that contributes to improving the world. ”
Masdar Institute’s recently launched initiatives for its next phase of growth, namely the five new iCenters and the four academic departments under which the eight Master’s programs and Doctorate program are grouped will be showcased at this year’s Open Day. Individual programs will host their own stalls explaining course details, research activities, career options and benefits of studying in that program. A student enrollment team will also be on hand to answer queries from students interested in applying at Masdar Institute.
Among other features, a dedicated stand will highlight the success of Masdar Institute’s outreach programs such as the Young Future Energy Leaders (YFEL), Ektashif and Summer Research Internships. The Student Affairs Office (SAO) will provide visitors details about on-campus facilities and student clubs. There will also be program-focused presentations led by faculty members throughout the day. Visitors and prospective students will be offered campus tours on request to see the state-of-the-art labs and research facilities to gain insight into the sustainable features on campus that will shape students into environmentally-responsible global citizens.
Serving as a key pillar of innovation and human capital, Masdar Institute remains fundamental to Masdar’s core objectives of developing Abu Dhabi’s knowledge economy and finding solutions to humanity’s toughest challenges such as climate change.
Established as an on-going collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Masdar Institute integrates theory and practice to incubate a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, working to develop the critical thinkers and leaders of tomorrow. With its world-class faculty and top-tier students, the Institute is committed to finding solutions to the challenges of clean energy and climate change through education and research.
