No trucks in Abu Dhabi during rush hours for Ramadan

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, July 3rd 2013 [ME NewsWire]: Heavy trucks will not be allowed to enter Abu Dhabi city during rush hours in Ramadan, the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police has announced. Trucks will be prevented from entering the city between 7:30 am and 9:30 am and from 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm, to ensure a smooth traffic flow.

Brigadier Engineer Hussein Ahmed Al Harthi, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police called on truck drivers not to enter the city of Abu Dhabi during the aforementioned prohibited hours and to comply with traffic laws and legal speed limits. Moreover, he underscored the need to use good tires and to abide by the designated load capacity and to ensure that their truck loads are properly secure, to prevent them from falling on the road. This, in turn, would lead to traffic jams and serious traffic accidents, and would cause tire explosions due to high pressure.

He also stressed that traffic control will be intensified on trucks' roads  to curb  reckless overtaking other vehicles and other actions that could lead to traffic accidents; pointing out that: “Sudden and reckless overtaking is a serious offence  punishable by an  a AED  10000 fine and the withdrawal of the driving license for a period of three months.”

Moreover, Al Harthi emphasized the importance of the “Your Safety” campaign, implemented by the General Directorate of Police Operations in cooperation with the Security Media Department, the General Secretariat of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, to promote public awareness. Concluding, he called on motorists to take part in the efforts to provide traffic safety during the month of Ramadan, by complying with traffic laws, reducing speeds, paying attention, using seat belts, avoid using hand-held mobile phones while driving. He also urged them to leave a sufficient safe distance behind vehicles and to be extra cautious to any eventual surprises on the roads.
