13 July 2022, Dubai, United Arab Emirates: It is no secret that Mahzooz changes lives through the millions of dirhams it awards to participants every week in its draws, however, as part of its mission, Mahzooz is also committed to making direct contributions to changing people’s lives in the community. Through its growing network of NGO partners and not-for-profit organisations, Mahzooz was able to touch the lives of over 8,000 direct and indirect beneficiaries, and this is in just a little over two years since its launch.
Al Jalila Foundation is one of Mahzooz’s key and long-standing partners, and the two have joined forces on several occasions to provide quality medical treatment to those, who are unable to afford it.
The latest collaboration between Al Jalila Foundation and Mahzooz revolved around the heart-wrenching story of one-and-a-half year old Mohammed. Baby Mohammed was born with a congenital disease, which is causing a blockage in his urethra and as a result, his kidneys to fail.
Al Jalila Foundation set up a fund raiser to support the medical treatment of baby Mohammed, who must undergo 13 haemodialysis sessions per month, cardiac imaging every three months, in addition to follow-up tests, medications, and regular visits to a heart clinic and a nutritionist.
Thanks to kind-hearted individual donors who participated in the fund raiser and to Mahzooz which sponsored the remainder of the therapy cost, baby Mohammed is currently receiving medical care at one of the best hospitals in the UAE. Thankfully, this has made a positive impact on the emotional and financial well-being of his family and helped the toddler in his journey back to a healthy life.
“As parent, it was heart-breaking for us to see our baby in the condition he was in, and three months ago we were extremely worried about the lack of funds for his treatment. Initially, we were doing dialysis at home, but this was causing him recurring infections. Now, thanks to Al Jalila Foundation and Mahzooz, we can do his dialysis at the hospital. He is currently getting some of the best treatments available, and as parents we could not be more grateful,” says Mohammed’s father, who has been a Dubai resident for 20 years.
Farid Samji, CEO of EWINGS -- managing operator of Mahzooz -- comments: “When we learned about Mohammed’s situation, we immediately reached out to Al Jalila Foundation to see how we could help his family. We were able to cover the remaining cost of the treatment required towards the upkeep and improvements in Mohammed’s life. His parents want him to be healthy, happy and enjoy life and that feeling is something that you cannot put a price on.”
Mahzooz, the UAE leading weekly draw that has given away over AED 200,000,000 in prize money, is committed to changing people’s lives through its social contributions, driven by its growing network of NGO partners.
Founded by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Al Jalila Foundation is a charity organization dedicated to promoting medical education and research in the United Arab Emirates.
Baby Mohammed is currently undergoing a successful treatment and is on the path to recovery.
