Abu Dhabi Convention Bureau Takes International Concrete Professionals on Site Visit to Louvre Abu Dhabi

Engineering experts get chance to examine the latest architectural masterpiece built in the emirate
Abu Dhabi, 22 March 2018: A delegation of representatives from the International Federation for Structural Concrete, as well as from the Society of Engineers – UAE, was treated to a comprehensive tour of the new Louvre Abu Dhabi museum this week, organised by Abu Dhabi Convention Bureau (ADCB), part of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi).
The president and board members of the International Federation for Structural Concrete (FIB – which stands for Federation International du Béton) were in the UAE to attend the first FIB - UAE Engineering Week, which has been organised by the Society of Engineers – UAE and which ran from 20th to 22nd March, with events in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
The trip to the region’s first ‘universal museum’ gave the delegation of 15 engineering professionals the opportunity to explore and examine the stunning architecture and pioneering construction techniques of the iconic museum, which was opened to the public in November 2017.
Hosted on Tuesday 20th March by members of the ADCB, the delegation included the President of FIB, Hugo Corres Peiretti, Professor György L. Balazs, Honourary President of FIB Head of Department of Construction Materials and Technologies , Dr David Fernández-Ordóñez, FIB Secretary General Dr. ir. A.J.
Bigaj van Vliet, the Senior Scientist Integrator TNO/Structural Reliability, and Dr Katalin Kopecskó, from the Deptartment of Engineering Geology and Geotechnics.
The delegation also included, members from the Society of Engineers – UAE,
FIB - UAE Engineering Week included the first FIB - UAE Industrial Open Day, the first FIB - UAE Young Civil Engineer Forum and the first FIB - UAE Women in Civil Engineering Forum (WICE).
