AUS Strengthens Leadership Team

- New Provost & Advancement Director Appointed
Sharjah, UAE. Saturday, June 17, 2017— American University of Sharjah (AUS) has strengthened its leadership team by appointing two new senior officials. AUS Chancellor Dr. Björn Kjerfve announced today the appointment of Dr. Susan Karamian as the university’s new Provost and Chief Academic Officer and Charles A. Diab as the Executive Director of Advancement and Alumni Affairs.
The two appointments were approved by the AUS Board of Trustees and endorsed by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the UAE Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah and President of AUS.
Chancellor Kjerfve stated, “We are very excited to have Dr. Karamian and Mr. Diab join AUS. They bring with them new perspectives in education and we are confident they will contribute to the development of the university. We need people with this level of experience to help us realize the vision of AUS as the top provider of American-style higher education in the region.”
Dr. Karamian will begin her tenure at AUS in August. She has served as the Burnett Family Professorial Lecturer in Internal and Comparative Law and Policy and as Associate Dean for International and Comparative Legal Studies at the George Washington University Law School, Washington, DC. She was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University where she received a B.A (Hons) in philosophy, politics, and economics. She also has a B.S in economics from Auburn University. Dr. Karamian holds a J.D from the University of Texas.
Diab joined AUS in May 2017. Prior to that he served as Strategic Advisor/Director University Advancement at Abu Dhabi University. He has a BBA from the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, Canada, and an MBA from University of Wollongong, Australia.
