Dubai, April 26, 2015: Medcare, a premium healthcare provider in the region, initiated a clean-up drive at the Jumeirah Beach in Dubai. The initiative, which was in line with Earth Day celebrations, was aimed at creating a cleaner environment at the beaches where garbage can litter can be both unsightly as well as dangerous. Earth Day is marked globally on April 22, 2015.
Medcare shares the mission of Earth Day to broaden, diversify and activate the environmental movement worldwide, through a combination of education, public policy, and consumer campaigns.
Medcare is the premium healthcare unit of Aster DM Healthcare, the private healthcare conglomerate in the Middle East.
Dr. Shanila Laiju, Chief Operating Officer of Medcare Hospital led the Clean Beach drive along with the large team of doctors and medical and non-medical staff of Medcare across its facilities – Medcare Hospital, Medcare Orthopaedic and Spine Hospital, Medcare Paediatric Hospital and Medcare Medical Centers.
The campaign was conducted at the Jumeirah Beach near Burj Al Arab, which is a popular summer hotspot for residents in Dubai, and covered a large area of the public beach.
Commenting on the initiative, Mr. Ala Atari, CEO Medcare Hospital, said: “We are pleased to be a part of this initiative. We have an active and a dedicated team that committed themselves to the Clean Beach initiative. At Medcare, we believe that a clean environment contributes as much towards good health as physical and mental fitness does.
“Beaches are public spaces where it is very easy for people catch infections. Furthermore, garbage on the beach, which is wide used by families with children, can be extremely dangerous, and fatal even for children. It is as important to keep these public spaces clean, as one would their own home,” he added.
