Dubai, United Arab Emirates (January, 2015):Academia Management Solutions International (AMSI), a leading academic solutions provider which manages both ISAS and Al Mawakeb Schools, was a prominent and active participant at the 3rd annual Harvard Model Congress held recentlyat the American University Dubai. Over 100 student delegates from all AMSI schools attended this prestigious event.
Organised by Harvard College Model Congress Middle East, a student organization at Harvard University, the event aims to hone the leadership skills of their students whilst increasing their awareness on global social and political issues. It is one of the largest conferences of its kind in the Middle East.
The congress conducted an intense three-day long government simulation conference, where students could represent renowned international committees like the UN Security Council, Arab League, African Union, and various US Congress Committees, and tackle current global issues by devising intuitive remedial measures and pass resolutions through parliamentary-style debating.
“The Harvard Congress Model not only gives students a platform to showcase and apply the skills learned in the classroom-including public speaking, debating, researching and writing, but also emphasizes the importance of these skills and their application in the real world.More importantly, it gives students a glimpse into the actual challenges facing the world, and encourages them to use their creativity and intelligence to reach viable solutions,” saysMr. RedaJishi, ISAS HMC Students Advisor.
Jishi further adds, “This event, ultimately serves as an eye-opening experience as students realize the world’s problems aren’t as easy to solve as they think; that cooperation in the international community isn’t just important but is, in fact, necessary; and that the fate of the world really does rest in the choices they make. As an advisor, there is no greater pleasure than watching students mature into this realization and, for the briefest of time, transform into responsible young diplomats.”
The Harvard Model Congress Dubai also offered student delegates an opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills crucial to confronting global challenges of the twenty-first century. The topics for discussion included foreign relations, government, future leadership, politics, and history, helping students analyse different perspectives critically and network with young minds from around the world.
The AMSI student delegates are a part of the HCM Club, and have, in the past two years, won several awards including ‘best delegation’, ‘Honourable Distinction’, and ‘Outstanding Delegation’ awards.
