Dubai, United Arab Emirates, September 9, 2014: In line with its vision to become the centre of excellence in gynecological minimally invasive surgery, Latifa Hospital, which is the emirate's largest maternity and pediatric hospital, recently held a workshop on minimally invasive gynecologic surgery.
The workshop was conducted by the hospital's gynecological laparoscopic team at Sheraton Four Point hotel and was attended by 15 doctors and nurses.
Dr Muna Tahlak, CEO of Latifa Hospital, said: “ Last year we launched the minimally invasive gynecological surgery ( MIGS) program at Latifa hospital so that we can become pioneers in this field. Minimally invasive surgeries lead to better patient outcomes as they are less invasive, lead to fewer complications and facilitate quicker post-surgery recovery. As part of this program, we organized this workshop to facilitate knowledge-transfer and skill-set development in this field.”
Dr Ghassan Lotfi, consultant gynecologist and MIGS Program director at Latifa Hospital, said: “Over the years the hospital is becoming a pioneer in minimally invasive gynecology surgeries. One of the main goals of this program is to achieve global accreditation for Latifa hospital from the American Association of Gynecological Laparoscopy (AAGL) as a center of excellence in Gynecological Minimally Invasive Surgery (COEMIG).”
He added that developing an accredited training program in gynecological endoscopic surgery as part of a fellowship program, under the supervision and care of the program's faculty at Latifa hospital is also in the pipeline.
The workshop consisted of several presentations from team members, both doctors and nurses who are involved in the minimally invasive gynecological program. The program continued throughout the day, with interactive discussions in between presentations, as well as hands-on training and demonstrations on latest surgical endoscopic devices, presented by experts in the field.
