[UAE, August 19, 2014] – The role of advanced ‘smart’ concepts such as ‘Big Data’ and ‘Cloud Computing’ in the development of genuinely ‘smart cities’ will be extensively covered through discussions and exhibitions at the Smart Living City – Dubai 2014 expo taking place from September 15 to 16, 2014 at Jumeirah Emirates Tower, Dubai. To be held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, the event will feature successful local and international ‘smart’ technology startups and explore the ‘smart city’ vision through various master classes, discussion panels and exhibitions. It will highlight how going ‘smart’ is integral to Dubai’s vision of becoming a ‘City of the Future.’
Big Data, machine-to-machine (M2M) and Cloud Computing technologies have been identified as essential elements for Dubai to become a Smart City. Many aspiring Smart Cities are leveraging these innovative technologies to provide essential public services to their citizens such as security, transportation, water and energy management, healthcare, utilities, and emergency response. For Dubai, the challenge will be to set up cost-effective and sustainable data centers that can collect, process, share, store and analyze data to transform Big Data into useful information using cloud computing.
Masood Al Awar, CEO, TASWEEK Real Estate Development and Marketing, said: “Many cities across the world are now making the shift to being a Smart City with an aim to make their urban environment more desirable, secured, sustainable and eco-friendly for their citizens, residents and tourists. There is no denying that Big Data will play a highly significant role in enhancing essential services in Dubai by improving its infrastructure, planning and management. Smart Living City – Dubai 2014 will offer a platform to brainstorm about SMART technologies that can offer many new windows of opportunities for informed decision-making and better citizen engagement in a Smart City.”
During the first day of the event, Smart Living City – Dubai 2014 will hold a keynote on ‘Big Data and SMART Government Solutions’ which will discuss real opportunities to be gained from a SMART City as well as key developments and challenges. The speaker lineup includes Ali Nimer, Director, e-Government Solutions, Microsoft CityNext; Charbel Aoun, Senior Vice President, Schneider Electric; Ashish Cowlagi, Smart Cities - Business Leader, IBM; and Amr Salem, MD - Smart Cities & Internet of Things, Cisco Systems. The session will be moderated by Marwan Bin Haidar, Executive Director, Dubai SMART Government, and will feature a Smart Presentation on Dubai by Microsoft CityNext.
Smart Living City – Dubai 2014 is organized by TASWEEK, a provider of comprehensive real estate development solutions for the UAE and the broader Middle East that leverages over 20 years of extensive experience in valuations, design, and real estate marketing across the UAE, and Inside Investor, a Hong Kong–based technology investment firm with offices in Dubai, Manila, and San Francisco.
