Handicraft Project by Patients Runs 22 - 24 July
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: 30 patients from the Behavioural Science Pavilion (BSP) at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) have taken part in a Do-It-Yourself Ramadan project.
The Ramadan Bazaar, where patients from the BSP day centre and inpatient long term ward display their handcrafted products for sale, runs from 22 - 24 July at the main entrance of SKMC.
The money collected from the bazaar, which is in its fifth edition since launching in Ramadan last year, is given back to the patients working on their projects, as an incentive to participate and interact.
“We started the bazaar project in Ramadan last year and it was well received by patients and their families. It is essential for us to provide outlets for patients to feel like active participants in their own society. It’s important that patients are engaged in their own treatment which involves more than medication - it is a holistic approach that encompasses all aspects of the patient experience,” said Dr. Maha Al Amri, Director of Behavioural Science Pavilion, SKMC.
The BSP provides patient-centred psychiatric and psychological care of the highest quality, while supporting and increasing awareness of mental health within the community. As one of the most modern and comprehensive psychiatry programs in the region, the BSP follows a patient-first culture which ensures the best possible care and outcomes for its patients. The BSP is the largest provider of mental healthcare services in the UAE, covering all psychiatric and psychological subspecialties including addiction, adult, child and adolescent mental health, forensic, geriatric and community psychiatry and psychology.
SKMC, managed by Cleveland Clinic, is part of the SEHA HealthSystem and owned and operated by Abu Dhabi Health Services Company PJSC (SEHA), which is responsible for the curative activities of all the public hospitals and clinics in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
