Over 450 workers benefit from Aster free medical camp in Dubai

DUBAI- May 19, 2014: Over 450 workers took advantage of a health and safety awareness programme and free medical camp conducted by Aster DM Healthcare, the leading healthcare conglomerate in the Middle East and India, at the employee accommodation premises of Al Ghandi Automotive Group in Sonapur, Dubai. Workers living in and around the location availed benefits of the free health services from Access and Aster along with the safety awareness sessions.

Mr. Muraleedharan K- Labour, Welfare and Community Affairs Counsel at Consulate General of India in Dubai, inaugurated the health camp in the presence of Mr. Marwan Ali Anbar, Head of Community Awareness- Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services; Mr. Mark Biggs, Director Resources and Development- Al Ghandi Automotive Group; Dr. PMM Sayed, Group Medical Director- Aster DM Healthcare; and Mr. Vivek Shukla, AGM and Head of Marketing- Aster DM Healthcare UAE. 

Dr. Dhaval Anil Rasal, Specialist Urologist, Aster Medical Centre Qusais and Dr. Rajeev Surendranath, Specialist Psychiatrist Aster Jubilee Medical Complex, Bur Dubai led the health awareness sessions respectively on the topics ‘Kidney Stone’ and ‘Stress Management’ at the one day long health camp, which ran from 8.30am to 4pm. The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed to extend Aster DM Healthcare’s support to people of all classes in the society.

A panel of specialists including Dr. Manodip Acharya, General Medicine, Aster Mobile Clinic, Dr. George Cherian, General Medicine, Aster Medical Centre, Qusais, Dr. Roshan Oomen, General Practitioner, ACCESS Clinic, Deira, Dr. Dhaval Anil Rasal, Specialist Urologist, Aster Qusais, and Dr. Rajeev Surendranath, Specialist Psychiatrist- Aster Bur Dubai provided consultations to the workers, with the support of Aster paramedical staff and technicians.

Commenting on successfully running the campaign, Dr. PMM Sayed, said, “It’s our mission to impart the message of public health and safety and enhance the reach of healthcare to all segments of the society. We standing for the welfare of the working community have been involving in key social programmes routed through the CSR activities of Aster DM Healthcare.”

“This camp educated the workers on the importance of preserving the health and safety highlighting preventable health issues. Many of the employees, who required detailed checkups, were referred for follow up treatments at Aster facilities. Apart from the consultation, the camp distributed educational materials and leaflets among the participants,” he added.

The participants availed free medical checkups including Blood Pressure, BMI and Blood Sugar;in addition to advice on diet and nutrition plan. The health and safety awareness sessions covered Aster DM Healthcare’s ongoing campaigns ‘Safety Tips for Road Accident Prevention (STRAP)’ and ‘Be Empathetic, Act Timely (BEAT)’.

The sessions, facilitated by Dr. ASTER Mobile’ clinic, focused on practicing healthy habits and road safety measures, actions to be taken during critical emergency situations, Basic Life Support (BLS) and first-aid lessons, in addition to creating awareness among the workers on the ill-effects of smoking tobacco.

Dr. Sayed also expressed his gratitude to Al Ghandi Automotive Group for their longtime association with Aster DM Healthcare.
