Micky Jagtiani won the lifetime achievement for excellence in Retail Dubai 31stOctober 2013: Apparel Group, Landmark Group, Rivoli Group and Dubai Duty Free bagged the most prestigious Images RetailME Awards for the year 2013. Images RetailME Awards hosts this prestigious annual event that recognizes top performing retailers and best retail practices in the industry and rewards excellence across the range of retail categories. Over 750 senior delegates from across the Middle East of the retail industry were present at the JW Marriott Marquis, the world's tallest hotel, in Dubai. Apparel Group, which represents more than 50 international brands in the Middle-Eastern market, took home 8 prestigious awards for the following brands; Tim Hortons (Most Admired Retailer Of The Year: Food Service), Nine West (Most Admired Retailer Of The Year: Footwear & Accessories), Tommy Hilfiger (Most Admired Retailer Of The Year: Children's Wear), Tommy Hilfiger (Most Admired Retailer Of The Year: Fashion), Aeropostale (Most Admired International Retailer Of The Year), Garage (Most Admired Marketing Campaign Of The Year) and Club Apparel (Most Admired Retailer Of The Year– CRM Initiative). Apparel Group started operations in 1996 and has now expanded to 750 stores in 14 countries worldwide. Amitabh Taneja, Chairman of the IMAGES Group, and Saifee Rupwala, CEO of Lulu Group, jointly presented the IMAGES lifetime achievement for excellence in Retail award to Micky Jagtiani, Founder & Chairman of Landmark Group. Landmark Group started out with a single baby shop outlet in Bahrain in 1973 currently it has a diverse portfolio of over 20 own brands through a network of 1500 outlets across 20 countries through its retail and hospitality offerings.
On receiving the award on his behalf, Renuka Jagtiani, vice chairperson of Landmark Group, said, “This is the most special award since it recognizes what Micky has done, it means a lot to us as it shows the groups growth since the past 40 years.” His daughter Nisha Jagtiani, business head of Iconic, added that it was only possible through the hard work and endless effort by their team at Landmark that stood by them through these years. Amitabh said, “This is the first time this award was introduced and it will continue to be a permanent picture every year to recognize outstanding personalities for their retail contribution to this region.” He also thanked the audience for a standing ovation given to Micky Jagtiani. Amongst winners (listed below) in 26 different categories were Dubai Duty Free for Middle East retailer of the year. With the opening of concourse A in Jan 2013 DDF now operates a total of 2,79,862 sq. ft. of retail space across terminals 1, 2 and 3; Malabar Gold who won the Most Admired Middle East Retailer of the year: Gold & Jewellery, Malabar Gold and diamonds has more than 100 stores across seven countries; Nike won the Most Admired Middle East Retailer of the year: Sportswear, since 2012 NIKE has opened 10 new stores taking its total GLA upto 158,785 sq. ft. across the GCC; Life Pharmacy who won the Most Admired Retailer of the year: Pharmacy& Healthcare. Life commenced its journey as a retail Pharmacy group in 1996 and the strong impulse to perform has nurtured its growth over the last 17 years, at present the organization stands tall in the industry with over 100 retail outlets; Garage who won the Most Admired Marketing Campaign Of The Year is a very popular brand in Canada and the US and they were sponsors of the Justin Bieber Concert in Dubai; Eye Zone won the Store Design of the year the new design concept gives every store uniformity in form and atmosphere while ensuring a distinctive identity and mumzworld.com who won the Most Admired online Retailer of the year it is a bilingual e-commerce site for mothers in the Middle East created by mothers. A jury, comprising the most prominent names in the local, regional and international retail industry independently judged all submissions. They include, Mohammad Alawi, CEO Red Sea Markets &Co., Saudi Arabia; Avijit Yadav, GM marketing & operations of GLA property Management Company LLC, Mohamed Galal, Chairman, Tasweeq Shopping Malls Egypt, Alexander John Andarakis, Founder and Managing Director of UAE based Andarakis Advisory Services, Dr Martin Fabel Partner who leads AT Kearney's strategy and marketing & sales practices, Phillip Evans, CEO of Hungary-based property management company Tri Granit Management Corporation, Zafer Younis co-founder and CEO of The Online Project which develops and executes social media strategies for fortune 500 companies and high profile organisations operating in the MENA region, and Roy Higgs, President of US-based Roy Higgs International. The results were audited by Crowe Horwath. The Awards gala evening was dressed in retail elegance and was presented by famous hostess Raags - popular pop singer, actress, model, TV anchor and Channel V VJ. UAE based high-energy standup comedian Demis Kyriacou entertained the audience with his witty humor, whilst Raags performed a few numbers form her music album Freedom. The images RetailME Awards since its launch has set benchmarks in becoming the largest and the most prestigious awards in the retail sector. Known as the ‘Oscars' of the retail world, these awards honour excellence in retail - from fashion, food, consumer electronics, health and beauty, leisure and entertainment to best marketing, best social media campaigns, store design and responsible group of the year.
