Significant contribution echoes UAE's ranking as one of the world's most generous nations

UAE, Dubai, 03 July 2013: In the largest anonymous donation received by Al Jalila Foundation since its inception, an Emirati philanthropist has made a morale-boosting gift of AED10 million. The donation advances the not-for-profit organisation's aim of giving beneficiaries across the UAE a new lease of life by fortifying the country's medical treatment, education and research capabilities. The donation will be invested in the Foundation's research endowment, which is primed to be a catalyst for scientific ingenuity that unravels the elusive answers to the country's healthcare impediments.

The substantial donation reinforces the UAE's reputation as one of the world's most generous donors in development aid, as ranked by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation & Development (OECD). The spirit of compassion has become a national trait, with the UAE's philanthropists, corporates and public donors contributing to a better quality of life worldwide by improving access to education, healthcare and humanitarian aid.

Giving a heartfelt statement of gratitude for the donation, Her Excellency Raja Easa Saleh Al Gurg, member of the Board of Trustees and Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Al Jalila Foundation, said: “This exceptionally generous donor shares our belief that today's medical research can unlock tomorrow's solutions and bring long-lasting improvements for our population. The UAE is synonymous with compassion, and such acts of generosity embody our national spirit. With more contributions from the wider community, we can facilitate more research to ease the burden on those affected by various health problems.”

Dr Abdulkareem Sultan Al Olama, CEO of Al Jalila Foundation, said: “Most people picture medical research as scientific reactions in a laboratory, but we should never forget the ‘reactions' that happen behind the scenes to make those tests possible. We hope this heartwarming example shows the public that we are all part of the same chain reaction and that together we can work towards a healthier future underpinned by a strong medical research culture. Whether we are spreading hope, gathering contributions or uncovering medical breakthroughs, we all impact each other's lives.”

The latest donation has spurred on the Foundation's fundraising efforts, and prospective donors or partners are invited to contact Al Jalila Foundation on info@aljalilafoundation.ae or 800-ALJALILA.
