Dubai, United Arab Emirates, March 22, 2020: Marina Rinaldi by Roksanda, a capsule collection designed by the Serbian stylist Roksanda Ilinčić for SS 2020, is a love letter to contemporary art.
The inspiration came to her during a visit to the Maramotti Collection: a collection of works started by Achille Maramotti (the founder of the Max Mara Group, which owns Marina Rinaldi), which has been open to the public since 2007.
While exploring the expansive exhibition areas, which amplify and emphasize the poetics of the various authors, Roksanda was particularly fascinated by the works of New Yorker Peter Halley, a central figure of the Neo-Conceptualist movement that flourished in the 1980s; Irishman and naturalised American citizen Sean Scully, a master whose abstract pieces feature painted stripes; and Luigi Ontani of Emilia-Romagna, a pioneer during the 1970s with his vibrant paintings of contemporary multi-media installations. Inspired by their work, Ilinčić developed a collection of garments with floaty, fluid shapes typical of her signature style.
Colours include yellow and blue—the characteristic shades of the collection—brightened up by hints of pink and red. These combine with bright-yellow and soft-blue stripes that, in some cases, turn into refined three-dimensional pleats.
Cotton (varying in weight) is the main fabric this season, on which the brush strokes of the designer’s printed motifs—inspired by the works that impacted her the most—appear.
With a robust feel in keeping with proud tradition and finished off with heat-sealed strips, the two-tone trench coat is a symbolic feature of the collection. The entire capsule collection showcases Roksanda's sophisticated interpretation of the most significant fashion trends in vogue at the moment.
