LG’s vision and strategy for a sustainable future
Dubai, United Arab Emirates - 20 June 2019: From the latest home appliances and electronics, to AC units and business solutions, LG Electronics (LG) is committed to reducing the environmental impact of its products.
To achieve this, the company has unveiled a number of commitments and goals, hoping to work with homeowners and businesses to create an eco-friendlier environment.
LG’s Green Product Strategy
1. Reduce resource consumption: Cut product volume and weight
2. Increase recyclability: Improve design for easy disassembly
3. Replace hazardous substances: Lessen use of chemicals
4. Improve home environment: Minimize product noise and vibration
5. Enhance energy efficiency: Decrease power consumption and standby power
6. Reduce CO₂ emissions: Reduce emissions through product life-cycle
Promote an intelligent lifestyle
LG aims to help consumers pursue a healthier and more connected lifestyle, through the use of innovative products with environmental changes in mind. Many of its advanced home appliances, such as its smart ovens and washing machines are integrated with LG SmartThinQ compatibility, enabling users to control appliances remotely and monitor overall operations.
LG has also forayed into fields such as renewable energy and electric vehicles, which it believes will be vital for the future of smart and sustainable cities. LG’s solar panel technology in particular, has been researched and developed for over 30 years.
Achieve zero carbon and a circular economy
To create more environmentally-friendly products, LG recognizes the need to reduce its own carbon footprint in the process. Developing off the back of its wider sustainable business strategy, LG has pledged to become carbon neutral by 2030.
Its ambitious plans seek to see the organization reduce its carbon emissions from its global operations by 50 percent (compared with 2017), through a range of carbon reduc-tion and renewable energy initiatives. To achieve this, LG will also invest in increased renewable energy usage, promote recycling within the production process and collect e-waste for responsible management after use.
Create a better society
Believing that change starts from within, LG plans to practice maintaining a sustainable business ecosystem. From an eco-friendly supply chain, to creating a fair and safe workplace for all employees and contributing towards wider society – LG aims to play an instrumental role in providing for communities around the world.
Internally, LG will establish volunteer programs in all LG-operated countries by 2030. Locally, LG recently partnered with business incubator INNOVEST to nurture young talent in the Middle East and Africa.
During an Investor Day in March of this year, talented entrepreneurs from around the region were invited to present their products and services, receiving crucial feedback and mentoring to help them develop further. Previously, LG also partnered with Goum-book and the ‘Give a Ghaf’ tree planting program, to preserve the national tree of the UAE and enhance the natural environment.
