The Fall 2019 Michael Kors Collection Runway Show
Last Update: Thursday, February 14, 2019 : 13:12 (+4GMT)
February 14, 2019—Dreaming was the theme of Michael Kors’ Fall 2019 runway show, which took place this morning at 10 AM in New York City. From the venue—Cipriani Wall Street, transformed into an old-school ballroom with distressed herringbone floors, velvet curtains, disco balls and chandeliers—to Barry Manilow’s finale performance and the Studio 54 capsule designs, the show was a celebration of individual style, glamour and romance.
“When I arrived in New York, it was a time of great creativity in fashion, theater, music and art. The sidewalks became like runways, with an explosion of style,” says Michael Kors. “The city was edgy and gritty but underneath it all there was energy, imagination and a sense of total freedom. It’s when the rules disappeared and a new kind of glamour emerged.”
In keeping with the theme of the collection, Michael Kors partnered with renowned nightclub Studio 54 on a capsule of ready-to-wear and accessories for women and men. The era-defining club’s bold, graphic logo is treated in a multitude of ways, always evoking the extravagance and imagination of that singular moment in New York City history. “From my first time at Studio 54, back in 1977, I knew that the mix of style, energy and glamour was truly special,” says Kors.
“There were no fashion rules, no dress code—people wore whatever they wanted, and it was almost always something glamorous and over-the-top.”
This year’s runway show also featured a fabulous finish courtesy of the legendary Barry Manilow. The singer/songwriter performed during the models’ finale walk, serenading the audience with a memorable rendition of his famous Copacabana song. Iconic supermodel and longtime muse Patti Hansen closed the show in her first runway walk since 1994.
