Group of HBMSU learners represent UAE in the largest global gathering of youth leaders in New York

UAE, 09th September 2018 - The Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU) posted a new achievement in its quest for excellence and to provide the best opportunities for learners to acquire international expertise. Four of its learners recently took part in the 22nd session of ‘The Youth Assembly,’ which was recently held at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters in New York City to discuss the United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda 2030. The successful participation of the learners in ‘The Youth Assembly’ reflects the university's leadership in the move to invest in qualified human resources and to be a major contributor to the leadership of global sustainable development.

Dr. Mansoor Al Awar, Chancellor of HBMSU, said: “The participation of our four learners falls in line with the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and the Supreme President of the University, to support young Emiratis and enable them to participate in international gatherings and forums which will have a great impact on the formation of promising UAE youth experiences and to make them more aware of their responsibilities in taking international action in the near future. These four learners successfully represented the UAE in one of the most important UN forums, their success reflects positively on the university’s leading position across the field of promoting the openness of Emirati youth to the international community and providing them with the essential knowledge and the scientific and cultural tools that can qualify them to be a partner for the youth of the world in shaping the future in line with the goals of sustainable development 2030.”

Al Awar added: “It was an honor to be part of the Youth Assembly, which provided a high-level interactive platform for international participants to foster communication channels and strengthen bridges of communication between young leaders and creative minds, to inspire them further in the development process. We will support their ambitious projects and continue to develop their promising potential to help realize the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). International conferences like ‘The Youth Assembly’ help the young Emiratis unleash their potential as well as explore the future and find effective solutions to sustainable development issues. Attending gatherings of global importance will consolidate the UAE’s world-class status.”

‘The Youth Assembly,’ which was held from August 10 to 13, 2018, featured debates and dialogues attended by young people and international decision-makers, experts, and influencers. With discussions mainly revolving around sustainable development, the participating young leaders can make positive change within their communities by leveraged their knowledge and advanced education to propose solutions to current and future challenges. The Session also focused on peace and development and ways to widen the role of young people in international dialogues by providing them with influential skills, especially creativity, innovation, cooperation and social entrepreneurship according to the needs of the 21st century.

The Youth Assembly was established in 2002 to ensure that the young segment of society is fully represented in international dialogues on development process. It seeks to build an effective partnership between the young and members of the academia, international organizations, and civil society institutions to achieve the 2030 Agenda. The 22nd session aimed to harness the skills of young people to solve contemporary challenges and activate their contributions to sustainable development projects.
