Young Guns Make Their Mark as Uae Team Emirates Finish Top of the Team Standings
Last Update: Monday, June 25, 2018 : 14:24 (+4GMT)
Dubai, UAE, June 25, 2018: UAE Team Emirates’ young guns produced one of the team’s best overall performances of the season, with Edward Ravasi, Valerio Conti and Simone Petilli all finishing in the top 10 of the General Classification (GC) at the Adriatica Ionica Race, and in doing so, took UAE Team Emirates to the top of the overall team standings.
The team produced impressive performances across all five stages of the UCI European Tour event. In the Team Time Trial (TTT) UAE Team Emirates recorded the second best time, whilst Simone Consonni, who recently won a stage in the Tour of Slovenia, continued his run of form by finishing second, sixth and seventh respectively in the three sprint stages. Meanwhile, Edward Ravasi finished fourth in the queen stage of the race, but was hit by bad luck with a puncture that prevented him from maintaining a podium place in the overall GC – eventually finishing fourth.
This is the second team win for UAE Team Emirates, having picked up the Tour de Romandie title earlier this season, and will provide them with a boost of confidence as the team gears up for the Tour de France. However, before then, the young Italians will travel to the Italian National Championships on June 30, looking to secure more silverware.
