Empower highlights commitment to save human lives in latest blood donation drive

December 10, 2017 - Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling services provider, recently participated in the blood donation drive in collaboration with various sectors in Dubai including the Dubai Police, Al Ameen, Dubai Health Authority and Blood Donors Kerala – UAE, as part of the company’s continuing corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative in line with the 2017 Year of Giving.

Blood donation campaigns are highly regarded as a very important health and social contribution in the country as it is critical in saving lives. The World Health Organization emphasizes the importance of blood donations as the foundation of safe blood supply and promotes social cohesion, urging many countries to establish a voluntary blood donation system to ensure consistent source of blood for those in need.  The UAE Vision 2021 also highlights such initiatives as part of the nation’s mission to create a confident and socially-responsible citizen. In the UAE, there is constant demand for available blood due to varied reasons including accidents, surgery, cancer and diseases like Thalassemia.

Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO, Empower, said: “Empower continues to find many ways to increase its engagement with the UAE community and blood donation is both a health and social responsibility, which we believe should be a vital part of our CSR activities. We are overwhelmed by the huge response received from all our departments and I appreciate their efforts in ensuring the success of this initiative. The campaign also raised awareness about blood donation as a healthy exercise and encouraged our employees to donate blood on a regular basis.”

The campaign was held at the Global Village by allowing entrance free of charge to blood donors in the tourism and family entertainment complex. The drive gained huge support from over 341 individuals who participated in the initiative. This is the fourth time Empower held and participate a blood donation drive in the year 2017.

“It is part of a larger commitment to save human lives and we will continue to include these efforts in our priorities and highlight its importance, especially this year which was declared as the Year of Giving by our wise leadership, who envision a society able to reach out to every individual in all walks of life,” concluded Bin Shafar.
