Ministry of Health and Prevention reveals improvements on ‘Wareed' system to further enhance its Department of Emergency Operations

The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) has announced the implementation of new improvements on its ‘Wareed’ system, an electronic healthcare information system (HIS) that virtually links all the Ministry’s healthcare facilities in Dubai and the Northern Emirates by automating all healthcare processes across various departments. The new enhancements are expected to enhance the Department of Emergency Operations of the Ministry while also reinforcing communication ties with local healthcare providers.

According to His Excellency (H.E.) Awadh Seghayer Al Ketbi, Assistant Undersecretary for Support Services, MOHAP, the improvements installed into the system will now result in the seamless linking of UAE-based health and medical facilities with the Ministry--ably powered by the integrated IT system of 'Wareed.' The move demonstrates MOHAP's commitment towards providing the best levels of health care that follow international standards to UAE nationals and residents. 

Meanwhile, Mubarka Ibrahim, Director –Health Information Systems Department, MOHAP, explained that the model currently being used by the Ministry's Department of Emergency Operations utilizes collected data containing comprehensive information about a patient. The data, which includes clinical and prescription summaries collated during a patient's stay in the emergency department, are kept in the patient's file for reference purposes like follow-up checkups.

She added, “The new improvements made with the ‘Wareed’ system include the addition of two new information sections for vital signs taken before the patient was discharged and a summary of why the patient was taken to the emergency department. The Patient Discharge Summary has all the details about the patient such as prescription, follow-up details, patient education and discharge diagnosis. This summary can now be printed out for the patients and saved into patient charts.”

Other improvements have been made to the system like the provision to update a patient's demographic data—encoding essential information like nationality, blood type and other data on the patient's portal, as well as developing a history records tab for all emergency situations.

Additionally, Access to the patient's education and awareness models can now also be facilitated directly.
