A Call for Research from Dubai Electronic Security Center promises 700,000 AED in grants for innovative cyber security research
700,000 AED total rewards by Dubai Electronic Security Center for a groundbreaking research in cyber security
Dubai, UAE, November 23, 2017: Dubai Electronic Security Center is pleased to announce a challenging yet rewarding competition calling upon all researchers in accredited higher institutes within U.A.E to submit a groundbreaking research proposal with a particular focus on cyber security. The best two research projects will be granted a funding of a maximum of 350,000 AED each. Proposals are to be submitted by the latest January 2nd, 2017.
In alignment with Dubai Cyber Security Strategy, the city’s aim in becoming the smartest city in the world, and our belief in the importance of academic research in making Dubai as the global leader in innovation, safety, and security. The center is providing this one of its kind opportunity for researchers to seize and to get actively involved in unfolding cyber security challenges.
The proposed research could be (but not limited to) on digital forensics, the security of mobile, big data, cloud, Internet of things, and autonomous vehicles. It could result in a cutting-edge technique, effective tool, inventive device or an advanced application.
To qualify for the competition the research has to be innovative with no similar commercial solutions, applicable (not concepts and ideas), and aligned with the cyber security industry needs in the UAE. Additionally, the research topic cannot be sponsored or funded by any other entity or an organization.
The evaluation criteria are mostly distributed among attaining originality of the research (30) points and (20) points for applicability and feasibility of the research in the UAE in particular and in the cyber security industry as a whole.
The rest of the criteria includes (15) points for providing evidence to the implementation of the proposed research, (15) points for the principal investigator institute collaboration with national/international institutes for the purpose of achieving the project. (10) points for the quality of the overall written proposal. (5) points for the involvement of students and finally (5) points for the involvement of UAE national students in the proposed research project.
The application process is straightforward where applicants are requested to fill up the submission form and submit accordingly online. Then the shortlisted candidates will be asked to present their research proposal and stay tuned for the official announcement of the final two winners.
