UAE, November 20, 2017 – In line with the commitment of the General Secretariat of the Supreme Legislation Committee in the Emirate of Dubai (SLC) to empower its female employees, the SLC’s female staff participated in the ‘Motori’ workshop held at the headquarters of the Samurai Eagle General Trading in Dubai. Launched by Kaltham Al Ketbi and supported by Emirates NBD and the Best Line Garage, the workshop equipped women participants with knowledge and skills about safe and secure driving and taught them what to do in case of car breakdowns.
The workshop run by car expert, Mitch Pereira, was an ideal platform to give the attendees an overview of the basic driving techniques and to provide them with guidelines for proper response to road emergencies. The SLC female staff had the opportunity to learn about the engine parts of vehicles, the basic skills of engine maintenance, the levels and testing of engine oil, vehicle battery switching, and evaluation of tire wear performance.
Nawal Harib Al Muhairi, from the SLC’s team, said: “The ‘Motori’ workshop provided our female staff with unique experience that boosted their driving skills and confidence while on the road. It is important to increase the technical and mechanical knowledge of women and enhance their theoretical and practical skills related to the technical and mechanical issues of vehicles, as well as the proper way to respond to road emergencies.
As the workshop was designed to enhance driving skills, she said that the forum contributed to the national efforts aimed at reducing road accidents, strengthening the response to road emergencies, and promoting safe driving. This is aligned with the goal of the UAE Vision 2021 to decrease traffic casualties from about 6 per 100,000 people to 3 per 100,000.
Al Muhairi further stated: "Our participation reflects the General Secretariat's commitment to empower women as well as reinforce their capabilities by providing an environment where they can excel and freely unfold their creativity. We believe that doing so will help us in promoting the legal and legislative system, and to further enhance the UAE’s position as an influential actor in the international arena. We look forward to taking part in similar creative and awareness-raising initiatives in support of empowering our women, who play a key role in the country’s overall advancement and sustainable development.”
The SLC has created a framework and platform to promote direct and positive communication among its female employees to enable them to discuss key issues affecting their personal and professional development. The women employees are also provided with maximum privacy, independence, and comfort in a positive work environment to help promote their personal and professional development and achieve work-life balance, while instilling in them the values of love of country, social responsibility, volunteerism and humanitarianism so that they can make a positive impact on the country’s development.
