Two stunningly elegant new models join the Marine Chronometer Manufacture family.
Dubai, UAE, November 19, 2016: Ulysse Nardin has been crafting marine chronometers since the development of international seafaring trade in the late 19th century, keeping ships and valued cargo precisely on course. Now, two new additions to the family of Ulysse Nardin Marine Chronometers are the proud heirs of 170 years of craftsmanship and constant innovation.
Powering these new Marine Chronometers is the UN-118 caliber, manufactured entirely in-house. With its heart of Silicium and DIAMonSIL, advanced materials pioneered by Ulysse Nardin in the first, 2011 version of the Caliber UN-118, the movement represents a giant step forward in the quest for absolute precision in mechanical time-keeping. It brings together the technological advancement of an anchor escapement in DIAMonSil with Ulysse Nardin's own oscillator and patented hairspring.
The cornerstone in the brand’s development and continued independence, this self-winding caliber is a cutting-edge treasure, and offers hours, minutes and direct-drive small seconds. Like every member of the Marine Chro-nometer family, the design of the dial is inspired by the early Ulysse Nardin chronometers. It features a power re-serve indicator at 12 o’clock and small seconds at 6 o'clock, positioned next to the date window. Distinctive roman numerals, cathedral hands and a fluted bezel on the stainless steel case mark it unmistakably as a Marine Chronometer. An impressive combination of sophistication and practicality, the timepiece features a crown designed for easy handling, complete with a rubber notch for comfortable winding.
Aesthetics for these new 45mm Marine Chronometers are explored in two iterations. Each of the two is adorned with a stunning dial. One in an elegant blue sunburst, offset by white markers and cherry red accents for a style that hints at classicism while retaining a strong contemporary edge. The other is glossy white lacquered with blue numerals and hands, presenting a chic, maritime aspect.
Water-resistant to 200 meters, able to run autonomously for 60 hours, the Marine Chronometer Manufacture has a date that can be adjusted either backward or forward. It also benefits from the rigorous testing required to pass the COSC and the Ulysse Nardin Certificate of performance.
