Dubai, UAE, June 18, 2016: The Holy month of Ramadan is one of sharing, caring and giving. It is a time for introspection and one of spiritual renewal and gratitude for the bounties bestowed upon all human beings. We, as members of society, strengthen our foundations of fellow feeling and harmony through selfless acts of sharing and caring.
Youth sustainability organisation, Green Hope UAE, works on the core philosophy of sustainable development through active involvement of civil society. Every year during Ramadan, we gather our resources and contribute food packets to the workers. Most of these workers are away from their families and really look forward and enjoy these interactions with us.
This year , we wanted to make our Ramadan campaign “green” by spreading the message of waste reduction and recycling , while at the same time bring happiness into the lives of the workers during this Holy Month. On 17th June , over 25 Green Hope youth , some as young as 9 , visited a camp in the Sonapur area. We handed out food packs and juices in reusable bags to 205 workers at the camp. The workers were also given reusable bowls. Our members then explained the concepts of recycling and Reuse to the workers , urging them not to waste and at the same time use these goods which were bio-degradable.
The smiles of the laborers as they accepted the food packs really made our day. They were especially delighted with our engagement and interactions which helped to build a bond of happiness with us.
At Green Hope, we believe that every section of civil society must join hands for a sustainable future. Our Green Ramadan campaign would not be possible without the support of Apple International School , Panache’ International and ICONS Coffee Couture who have always joined hands with Green Hope to bring a smile on the faces of the unsung heroes who form the backbone of our society.
