HBMSU is first university to rename Staff Services and Relations Section as Staff Happiness

UAE, June 5, 2016– In line with the wise leadership’s vision of making the UAE the world's happiest country, Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU) has announced that it has renamed the Staff Services and Relations Section of its Institutional Resources & Services Division to the Staff Happiness Section. The move is part of plans to adjusting the section activities and tasks in accordance with the objectives of Dubai Plan 2021 to ensure the happiness of human resources. It is also in line with the vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to make the people of the UAE among the happiest in the world. The University is currently conducting a study to identify internal performance indicators and align them with government indicators for community happiness.
Commenting on the initiative, Dr. Mansoor Al Awar, HBMSU Chancellor, said: “Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University values the happiness and job satisfaction of its staff. Making our people content and meeting all their needs is essential to optimizing their productivity and professional excellence in line with the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and President of the University. The launching of the Staff Happiness Section emphasizes our commitment to support the wise guidance of our leadership in facilitating direct links between the happiness of employees and the society as whole. This initiative supports government efforts to build a cohesive and happy society and affirms our belief that human resources are the main component and the building block for enhancing work and advancing the development and leadership of the university, all of which contribute to the growth of the entire education sector.”
As the first woman to occupy the post of Staff Happiness Manager not only at HBMSU but within the national academic sector, Atfa Al Zarouni emphasized that ensuring the happiness and well-being of staff is the most important step for pushing any institution to higher levels of excellence and success. She said: “Recent studies indicate that happy employees are twice as productive and help create a positive environment for constantly enhancing performance and efficiency as well as spreading the spirit of innovation and teamwork among staff. As the university’s Staff Happiness Manager, I look forward to achieving our section’s goals along with our team. We shall reach out to the staff and act in accordance with their needs and requirements and adopt the best practices and applications to motivate our employees to give their best and be outstanding in their respective fields.”
