Hosted in Collaboration with Singapore's Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy

Dubai-UAE: 16 February, 2015 – Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government (MBRSG), a research and teaching institution focusing on public policy in the Arab world, a roundtable discussion on smart policies and innovation in public.

Organized in collaboration with Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Police from Singapore, the roundtable included participants from Singapore, Australia, Germany, UK and the US.

The session discussed three main topics. The first was a bid to answer what constitutes a smart policy. The second focused on the important role of participatory planning and collaboration in developing a smart policy. While the third discussed the roles of schools of government in supporting decision makers with smart policies leading to effecting implementation of innovative public sector practices.

The discussions included the collaborative and strategic approach in designing, implementation and evaluation of policies. It also focused on flexibility and creativity in policy making, the use of technology for maximizing benefits, lowering costs and ease of implementation in addition to sustainability, long-term impact and effects on individual and society well-being.

Dr. Ali Sebaa Al Marri, Executive President, MBRSG, said: “We are honored to be joined by the prestigious Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and number of prominent scholars to cooperate in this occasion. We had a very rich discussion and it was a great opportunity to share knowledge and exchange points of view in a manner that would us develop policy making and innovation in the UAE government”.

The roundtable discussion was followed by focus groups on topics related to smart policies and innovation in government organizations.

The Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government is committed to promoting good governance through enhancing the region's capacity for effective public policy. The school uses a four-pronged approach, which includes applied research in public policy and management, academic programs in public policy and administration, executive education programs and knowledge forums for scholars and policy makers.
