Ministry Awards Licensure to Ocean University

Fujairah has a new university. Ocean University has been awarded Licensure by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education & Science.

H.H.Sheikh Dr. Rashid bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Chairman of Fujairah Culture & Media Authority, has agreed to be the university’s first Chancellor.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees, H.E. Mohammad Saeed Al Dhanhani, Director of The Emiri Court, forecasts that Ocean University will make a major contribution to education and to business in Fujairah and the region.

Members of the Board of Trustees include H.E. Mekki Abdulla (Vice-Chairman), the Chief Executive Officer of Fujairah Media Group;Member of the UAE Parliament H.E. MrsAyshaYammahi; H.E. MrMohamad Al Afkham, General Manager of Fujairah Municipality;H.E. Ibrahim Allan, General Manager of Fujairah Culture & Media Authority;and Professor Dr. Ghassan Al-Qaimari, the former Director of Fujairah College.

Dr Al-Qaimari, currently Vice-President of MENA College of Management in Dubai, has acted as consultant to Ocean University in its successful application for Licensure.

The University has established an International Advisory Panel of academics, diplomats and business professionals, with members drawn from the UAE, Africa, Europe and the USA.

Ocean University expects to admit its first students in September 2015, followingthe anticipated accreditation of its planned courses by the Ministry.

Ocean University is owned by Fujairah Media Group, the international radio and television broadcaster, which also owns and operates the Creative City Freezone for the Government of Fujairah.

Courses have been designed to meet the needs both of students and their families, and of business in the region, with teaching in both Arabic and English.
Full details will be released once courses have been accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education & Science.

H.E. Mohammad Saeed Al Dhanhani said: “The Emiri Court has been pleased to offer its full support to Ocean University in its application for Licensure. Our new university will be offering a range of excellent courses, which will make a major contribution to education and business in Fujairah and the wider region”.

H.E. Mekki Abdulla, Chief Executive Officer of Fujairah Media Group, said: “From its base here in Fujairah, our group broadcasts in Europe and across The Middle East and North Africa. We intend that Ocean University should have a similar worldview, helping to develop Fujairah and the region as a major hub of higher education with an international reputation”.

Mr Julian Allitt, Director and CEO of Ocean University, said: “Students and their families will be the most important people at Ocean University. We have also consulted widely with employers in the region and our planned range of courses will be geared closely to the needs of both students and employers”.
