Union Co-op Donates AED3 Million to Family Village Project

•    Donation Reflects Co-op’s Commitment to Supporting Social Development Projects in the UAE 
•    Covers Costs of Building, Equipping Villa at Family Village

Dubai-UAE: 28 October, 2014 – Union Co-operative Society (Union Co-op), one of the largest consumer co-operative societies in Dubai, has donated a sum of AED3 million to cover the costs of constructing and equipping a complete villa in the Family Village project, the first waqf village in Dubai and a pioneering initiative of Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation (AMAF). The donation is a part of Union Co-op’s mandate to give back to the community and support charitable initiatives in the UAE. 

A cheque for the total amount of the donation was received from Union Co-op’s Mr Suhail Al Bastaki, on behalf of the Union Co-op’s General Director, during his visit to AMAF’s headquarters. He was welcomed by His Excellency Tayeb Al Rais, Secretary General of AMAF, Ahmad Abu Shehab, Director of Waqf Development, and Mohammad Alkamzari, Head of Public Relations and Marketing at AMAF. 

Commenting on the Family Village project, Suhail Al Bastaki, Media & Communication Department Manager, Union-Coop Dubai, said: “I applaud AMAF’s efforts to care for the society’s underprivileged sections, particularly orphans who have no one to turn to. At Union Co-op, we believe serving society is a part of our corporate social responsibility. We are honored to support AMAF’s unique charitable initiative in Dubai, and we believe that all organizations – private and public sector - should contribute proactively to advancing society through enabling community members, where needed and whenever possible.” 

His Excellency Tayeb Al Rais, Secretary General of AMAF, said: “At AMAF we work with various public and private institutions and organizations to enhance and expand the waqf tradition and take care of minors as per sharia principles. We thank the Union Co-op for its interest in the Family Village project, its generous donation, and consistent support to charitable projects that help improve the lives of the general public. This contribution will be allocated to cover the costs of a villa that will carry the Union Co-op’s name as an acknowledgement of our profound appreciation. We invite other organizations and companies to join hands with us to help advance this landmark project and similar AMAF initiatives.” 

“AMAF’s collaboration with the Union Co-op will not be limited to this donation. The Union Co-op will also promote the Family Village and spread awareness for its humanitarian initiatives throughout its centers in Dubai,” Al Rais added.
