DUBAI, September 15, 2014: A group of children, who are undergoing treatment for Thalassemia, inaugurated the latest Aster Medical Centre in Dubai Silicon Oasis. The Medical Centre, located at Gate-1 Building in Silicon Oasis to offer a comprehensive range of medical specialties to the residents of the neighborhood, has committed to support Thalassemic children for a period of one year.
The children with Thalassemia are facing the challenges of hereditary disorders of hemoglobin synthesis, which requires regular blood transfusions as the only mode of treatment available to them. To support the cause, the new medical facility will conduct blood donation campaigns every 3 months at its premises to meet their blood transfusion requirement.
Most Thalassemia patients require transfusions every two to four weeks, depending on their consumption of the infused cells, plus other treatment to prevent complications. Regular transfusions greatly contribute to the quality and length of their life, with the red blood cells they need to survive. The blood-related disorder is diagnosed as the absence of or errors in genes responsible for hemoglobin production, a protein present in the red blood cells.
Commenting on the launch of the new facility, Dr. Azad Moopen- Chairman and Managing Director of Aster DM Healthcare, said, “We, at Aster Medical Center in Dubai Silicon Oasis, are supporting the cause of Thalassemia through conducting blood donation campaigns. We will continue many such activities from our end on a regular basis in the future as well. With more than 26 years of service, it’s gratifying to note that we have touched the lives of millions over this period of time, all from different countries, ethnicities and cultural backgrounds, thus reaffirming our promise ‘Care Beyond Boundaries’.”
Ms. Alisha Moopen, Director- Corporate Strategies at Aster DM Healthcare, said, “Thalassemia is a growing concern in the Middle East region. There’s a necessity for regular outreach programs to educate the public about lifelong disease, so that these patients face no discrimination and are well integrated into society. This is possible by educating the public on coming forward to support the patients by donating blood. We firmly believe in the importance of supporting Thalassemia patients in the UAE and we feel such initiatives are significant in boosting the morale of these patients.”
The new Aster Medical Centre is conveniently located in the residential area of Dubai Silicon Oasis, proximate to Academic City, extending its medical services to the people residing in the neighborhood.
