Over 450 workers benefit from Aster – Al Ghandi medical camp in Dubai

DUBAI- May 22, 2014: Over 450 workers took advantage of a health and safety awareness programme and free medical camp conducted by Aster DM Healthcare, the leading healthcare conglomerate in the Middle East and India, jointly with Al Ghandi Automotive Group at their employee accommodation premises in Al Muhaisinah (Sonapur), Dubai recently.
Workers living in and around the location availed the benefits of free health services and safety awareness sessions offered by Access and Aster doctors. The camp was directed at educating the workers on the importance of following a healthy lifestyle and practicing necessary safety rules in everyday life.
Mr. Muraleedharan K- Labour, Welfare and Community Affairs Consul at Consulate General of India in Dubai, inaugurated the health camp in the presence of Mr. Marwan Ali Anbar- Head of Community Awareness, Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services; Mr. Mark Biggs- Director Resources and Development, Al Ghandi Automotive Group; Dr. PMM Sayed- Group Medical Director, Aster Medical Centres; and Mr. Vivek Shukla- AGM and Head of Marketing, Aster DM Healthcare UAE.
Dr. Dhaval Anil Rasal- Specialist Urologist, Aster Qusais and Dr. Rajeev Surendranath- Specialist Psychiatrist, Aster Jubilee Medical Complex in Bur Dubai talked about ‘Kidney Stone’ and ‘Stress Management’, respectively at the day-long health camp.
Free consultation was offered to the attendees of the medical camp by a large panel of specialists from Aster. The panel included Dr. Manodip Acharya- General Medicine, Aster Mobile Clinic; Dr. George Cherian- General Medicine, Aster Qusais; Dr. Roshan Oomen- General Practitioner, ACCESS Deira; Dr. Dhaval Anil Rasal- Specialist Urologist, Aster Qusais; and Dr. Rajeev Surendranath- Specialist Psychiatrist, Aster Bur Dubai, along with the paramedical staff and technicians from Aster.
Commenting on the medical camp, Dr. PMM Sayed- Group Medical Director, Aster Medical Centres, said: “By organising the camp, we aimed to educate the workers on following a healthy lifestyle. Besides the free health checks and medical advice, our medical camps mainly focus on supporting the people to take preventive measures. To this end, we have been proactively involved in key health programmes, routed through the CSR activities of Aster DM Healthcare.”
“We are very pleased to have Al Ghandi Automotive Group join us in this initiative towards providing quality healthcare to all. With medical camps such as this, we aim to enhance the reach of our healthcare services to all segments of the society,” he added.
At the camp, the participants also availed free checkups for Blood Pressure, BMI and Blood Sugar levels. They were also provided with free medicines. In addition, the attendees were given guidance on ways to maintain a balanced and nutritious diet.
Commenting on the medical camp, Ms. Alisha Moopen, Director Corporate Strategies- Aster DM Healthcare, said: “The medical camps being organised regularly by Aster DM Healthcare have been a great help for the patients from low-income group, but there is a need to do much more. Our specialist doctors provide their time and skills free of cost to serve the community with special focus on the underprivileged sections.”
“Such medical camps, being conducted by Aster DM Healthcare, are aimed at extending our healthcare support to people of all classes in the society. The CSR activities of Aster DM Healthcare are aimed at the overall welfare of the community, primarily focusing on creating awareness among the workers on health, hygiene and safety,” she added.
The health and safety awareness sessions also covered Aster DM Healthcare’s ongoing health and safety campaigns that focus on road safety tips, actions to be taken during critical emergency situations, Basic Life Support (BLS) and first-aid lessons.
The camp also educated workers on the ill-effects of tobacco use, and easy ways to kick the habit. Well-equipped to offer primary care and basic lab investigation, ‘Dr Aster Mobile’ clinic facilitated the medical camp to support community health and safety services. The camp also distributed educational materials to the participants promoting healthy lifestyle.
