like the United Arab Emirates, is a rapidly evolving nation with extraordinary opportunities to establish a world-class healthcare system. Appropriate health services (facilities, clinicians and technologies) supporting the health and wellness of the nation are an important national value. Ms Bernadette Farrell, Director of Health Facility Planning & Architectural Design, at Hamad Medical Corporation will be speaking about the Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City (HMC) Master Plan Vision for 2030 at the Architects’ Congress during the 6th Hospital Build & Infrastructure Middle East Exhibition & Congress in Dubai form 2-4 June.
According to Ms Farrell, “The timing for this new wave of comprehensive development is fortuitous. Initiated now when a large portion of the population is just reaching adulthood, this strategy will align well-planned growth of a comprehensive healthcare system alongside a maturing generation of participating users over the next two decades and beyond.”
The HMC Master Plan Vision for 2030 strategy addresses the roadmap from a number of vantage points including systemic development of a multi-dimensional healthcare system based in a strong foundation of community based and preventative care initiatives. This is one step in moving the nation from an acute care paradigm to one based in health awareness and monitoring to identify and manage the incidence of disease. HMC aims to provide ongoing development of high quality, evidenced-based patient care services in the country.
“Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City will achieve environmental sustainability by adopting an integrated approach to resource management. Resource efficiency strategies need to be employed to maximize efficiency whilst minimizing waste. The utilities strategy aims to be smart, adaptable and highly efficient, using the principles of flexibility, security in resilience while maximizing inputs which will be used to guide the infrastructure design,” highlights Ms Farrel.
“It is essential to ensure that quality and safety of services and procedures are guaranteed by a sufficient critical mass of medical infrastructure and clinical expertise. It is also important to continue to advocate the advancement of national standards and operating protocols incorporating credentialing and performance review of clinical practitioners, and avoid fragmentation of clinical resources by unnecessary duplication of services to multiple sites,” says Ms Farrel.
Hospital Build & Infrastructure Middle East Exhibition & Congress 2014 is organised by Informa life Sciences Exhibitions and will run from 2-4 June 2014 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. It will bring together investors, commissioners, backers and managers of major healthcare building projects together with planning, design, building, operations, management and refurbishment suppliers. Running alongside the exhibition is a multi-disciplinary congress consisting of 11 leading conferences that will focus on delivering up-to-date information which will address all the disciplines involved with the hospital build process.
