Last Update: Sunday, March 30, 2014 : 15:24 (+4GMT)
Demonstrating its commitment to protect the environment and alleviate climate change, Centro Sharjah by Rotana once again participated in Earth Hour for the third consecutive years, a global Worldwide Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) climate change initiative.
On 29th March 2014, between 8:30 and 9:30, the hotel turned off their lights mostly in the back-of-the-house areas and dims the lights in public areas, restaurants and hotel exterior. Guests were also encouraged to turn off their room lights and invited them to join the team and enjoy an hour at the lobby.
“As an environmentally friendly and social responsible company, its Centro Sharjah’s responsibility to educate our colleagues and guests with the importance of the Earth Hour” said Michael Kasch, General Manager of Centro Sharjah. “ Centro Sharjah will remain devoted and committed in pursuing initiatives that alleviate the effects of climate change, not only through Earth Hour but also through other environmental CSR activities like: tree planting, green project implementation, and use of recycled products to name a few.” Michael added.
Participating in Earth Hour is one of the main CSR activities of Rotana Earth environmental efforts. "Rotana Earth" is the Global Corporate Sustainability Platform of Rotana, a comprehensive framework that addresses environmental, economic and social sustainability to be implemented at all new and operating hotels, resorts, apartments and residences. The goal of the earth platform is to guide our transition to sustainable development and setting fundamental values and principles for building a just sustainable future for the community of life on earth.
Centro Sharjah estimates that for each hour of shutting off or dimming lights, it can save more than 25 kw/hr of electricity.
After an hour of enjoyment at the lobby of the hotel, Centro Sharjah shared 25% discount voucher for F&B to all guests who participated which they can used anytime they dine-in at c.taste restaurant.
