Company Employees and Management Raised AED 100,000 to Help Families in the Philippines
Dubai: 24th December: The employees and shareholders of Jumbo Electronics have contributed AED 100,000 to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan, through a Philippines Relief Fund Initiative.
Clearly, the tragedy which shook the whole world had a deep impact on Jumbo employees as a large number of them belong to the Philippines. Merchandiser Alma Roldan's heart rending story about her family in Philippines being rendered homeless with little or no aid from anywhere mobilized a great deal of support from within Jumbo and the drive to support the cause gathered momentum. Within a week, employees, colleagues and friends of Alma Roldan had collected a large amount for the Relief Fund. As a gesture of goodwill and support, the contributions of employees were more than matched by the Company's shareholders and Chairperson Mrs. Vidya Chhabria.
The final cheque was handed over to Philippines Red Cross officials last week.
Vishesh L. Bhatia, Jumbo Electronics CEO said: “The devastating effects of Typhoon Haiyan touched the hearts of everyone at Jumbo. The tragedy especially hit home when we saw how this natural disaster had affected one of our own staff members and we were all very motivated to do all that we could to help.”
“It was heartening to see how staff members of all nationalities came together to donate. We hope that our efforts will help provide some relief to the families affected by the typhoon.”
Jumbo Electronics, UAE'S leading IT, telecom and consumer electronics retailer and distributor, has a multinational and multicultural workforce, mirroring the cosmopolitan nature of their customer base and the demographics of the company's host country, the UAE.
