Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council Launches Campaign to Raise Awareness on ‘Manaa' Online Portal

Abu Dhabi-UAE: 07 November, 2013 – Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC) has launched a week-long education and awareness campaign about the Manaa online portal that allows consumers to report unsafe products as well as reporting injuries resulting from the use of such products. The system also provides detailed lists of products that do not comply with QCC's quality standards and have been recalled from the Abu Dhabi market.
The awareness and education campaign will continue to run until the end of the week at Al Wahda Mall in Abu Dhabi, followed by Al Ain Mall and Al Gharbia, as well as a number of schools and universities around the emirate.
In addition to introducing the public to the benefits of using the Manaa online portal, the awareness initiative provides information on consumer awareness and injuries that can occur from unsafe products. The campaign suggests methods on how victims of such injuries could report those injuries. Highlighting QCC's role in ensuring products' compliance with certain safety standards and its efforts to clear the market from products that do not conform to such standards, the campaign guides consumers on how to report defective or ‘withdrawn' products that they may find on the shelves of stores in the capital.
Abdullah Al Khoury, acting Executive Director of Consumer and Market Services, at Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council, said: "This campaign reflects the commitment of QCC in raising quality standards and strengthening the level of consumer awareness in Abu Dhabi. We encourage consumers to register through the system and contribute in reporting unsafe products. Increasing public awareness about quality standards in the emirate is our key priority at QCC, and ensuring public safety, security and health is our biggest reward. "
Manaa aims to maximise product quality and safety standards in Abu Dhabi through the careful monitoring and control of commodities, and is an efficient system to record consumer feedback. It is a unique interactive portal that offers maximum flexibility to the user while browsing, registering and reporting. The website registration and forms can be completed in a number of ways including filling out a form, voice recording or through entering contact details. The customer can in turn expect a response call from a service representative. To register, and for more information, consumers can log onto www.manaa.ae.
The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council was established in 2009 to raise the quality of the emirate's exports and locally traded products, while protecting the interest of consumers and supporting the UAE's competitive economy. This is achieved through empowering regulators to establish and implement product safety, legal metrology and conformity schemes. QCC also sets guidelines and benchmarks to identify and verify that the products manufactured and traded in Abu Dhabi conform to the highest quality standards.
