Three-month Course Aims to Improve Health Services in Abu Dhabi Schools
Abu Dhabi-UAE: November 06, 2013 - The School Health Services Department of the Ambulatory Healthcare Services (AHS), a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), is set to launch the second leadership and management training course for charge nurses at schools with a view to enhancing the health services provided to students in the emirate.
Running from November 2013 - January 2014 at AHS, the course will be delivered through a combination of lectures, discussions and case study illustrations to demonstrate best practices. The course will be conducted by a group of experts from AHS, School Health Services (SHS), Fatima College of Health Sciences, Mafraq Hospital, and the UAE University in Al Ain.
The goals of the management training course that have been carefully identified following surveys and interviews are to develop the knowledge and skills of charge nurses through evidence based best practice components that include strategic management and planning, SWOT analysis, clinical trials, and the integration of research evidence into clinical practice. These topics are in line with School Health Services' efforts to cascade its strategy across different levels
Dr. Najah Mustapha, School Health Services Director at AHS, said: “We are taking one more positive step in the ongoing development and optimization of school health services. This management training initiative reaffirms our commitment towards upgrading the skills of charge nurses. Since the charge nurses are responsible for supervising 20-25 school nurses, the training aims to enhance their managerial skills that will ultimately be reflected in their practice and consequently improve the performance of the school nurses. All of this aims to serve our ultimate objective of ensuring the good health and well-being of school children in Abu Dhabi.”
Following the completion of the course, charge nurses will be responsible for ensuring the achievement of SHS key performance indicators (KPI).
The management training has also been extended to UAE National SHS nurses who wish to improve their managerial skills.
