Dubai, 28th October 2013: House of Miriam, an exclusive designer label for little girls launched in Dubai this week. This online brand features unique dresses that are all original designs by fashion designer, Miriam Jiji Thomson. Miriam comes with a well-grounded and cosmopolitan background in fashion design, having trained in London College of Fashion UK, Instituto Europeo Di Design Milan and Pearl Academy of Fashion India. This is Miriam's first independent venture.
Speaking on the launch, Miriam said, “Every dress you see here made its journey on paper first. They are all very unique, special and lovingly designed with great attention to detail. Little girls can hold their heads high and confidently take on whatever their day may bring, knowing they look absolutely spectacular in these designs.”
When asked about why she chose children's wear Miriam said, “I was particularly inspired to start designing for children after the arrival of my gorgeous baby nieces. I made a few dresses for them and realized how deeply satisfying and enjoyable it was. I couldn't wait to do more! This really made me think about starting my own label.”
The House of Miriam label caters to age group of 0-8 years and has dresses that are both casual and formal. The label offers free shipping in the UAE on orders about 250AED. Given the hot weather in Dubai, the predominant fabric of choice for this label is Cotton along with a few stunning designs in Linen. Miriam categorized her work into three collections – ‘Street Smart', ‘Linen and Neon crush', ‘Party Princess'. The ‘Street Smart' collection has a few designs in a beautiful eyelet fabric enhanced with godet detailing. Miriam emphasized that the peek-a-boo aspects of the fabric along with the godets translate beautifully on children since they are so full of energy and movement. White was a color of choice for many of her designs as Miriam explained, ‘White is classic color for all seasons, especially here in the UAE. The collection with the delicately embroidered schiffli designs also feature a burst of color with placements of bows and flowers made to look a garden scene.'
Neon Crush designs, which feature a pop of neon colours were a particular favorite of Miriam's. The styles feature soft cotton fabrics, completely embroidered with neon threads, along with sequined neon stars paired with bright pops of color in satin. When asked about her Neon collection Miriam explained, “ Neons have been in trend the pasttwo-three seasons and it really looks best on children. It really brings out their colorful personalities. Besides, children love color and they seem to have an instant connect with neons!"
The long term vision for the brand will be to continue to grow with the in-house label for girls. In the future, Miriam hopes to collaborate with other designers to showcase their products that fit around children and mums and also expand to accommodate clothing for little boys.
Along with Miriam's collection of designer dresses, House of Miriam also features other products such as accessories and nursery decor handpicked from other designers. Buyers will find a range of eclectic and classic pieces here that have been crafted with an exceptional level of care, quality and attention to detail.
