14 March 2023, DUBAI, UAE –: The Egyptian Zakat and Charity House, under the supervision of the Grand Imam, Dr. Ahmad El Tayeb, Sheikh of Al Azhar, announced that the UAE businessman Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor, Founding Chairman of Al Habtoor Group (AHG), has decided to sponsor 5000 needy students at the Zakat and Charity House to help them complete their education.
This donation by Khalaf Al Habtoor supports the role played by the Zakat and Charity House to channel the funds of zakat and charity to valid uses, by helping students who struggle to afford the education fees and expenses. The students are of the 8 to 24 age group; they are enrolled in different stages of education and come from various Egyptian regions and Arab countries.
Al Habtoor said: "This is motivated by our sense of responsibility towards our Egyptian brothers, and the importance of building an educated society, especially in these challenging circumstances."
"We have chosen the Zakat and Charity House out of our appreciation of its role in the Arab and Islamic world," he added.
The Grand Imam, Sheikh of Al Azhar, highlighted the value of Al Habtoor's donation and its contribution to alleviating the suffering of needy students. He said that the donation fell under the bank of the poor and needy, and was an addition to the contributions of the well-off people to support the Zakat and Charity House's role in channeling the donations to those who deserve them.
The Egyptian Zakat and Charity House has been working, since its establishment in 2014, to support the education of needy students. In this regard, 46 thousand students benefitted from assistance that amounted to 45 million Egyptian pounds. Most notably, support was provided to students from African and Asian countries, such as Nigeria, Indonesia and others.
