Dubai, UAE, 23rd November, 2019: To commemorate the occasion of World Children’s Day, Medcare Hospitals & Medical Centres and Aster Volunteers joined forces with Human Appeal International, Ajman, to launch their initiative titled ‘Healthy Kids, Brighter Future’ on 22nd November 2019 at Medcare Hospital Sharjah. Under this initiative, Aster Volunteers and Medcare Hospitals hosted a fun-filled children’s’ medical camp wherein over 40 volunteers conducted health checkups for more than 350 underprivileged children.
The UAE Vision 2021 National Agenda aims to achieve a world-class healthcare system and ensure the readiness of the healthcare sector to actively curb health risks. In line with this objective, Aster and Medcare Hospitals wanted to provide an inclusive and efficient healthcare service to underserved children. At the camp, health checkups also included screening by specialty doctors from General Medicine, Pediatric Dental, Opthamology and Pediatric General Practice.
One by one, each child was guided to an initial screening session with a General Practitioner, who then referred the child to a specialist if deemed necessary. Throughout the day, the children were entertained with engaging activities such as face painting, arts & craft, dancing and competitions that led to many children winning valuable rewards.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Azad Moopen, Founder, Chairman & Managing Director of Aster DM Healthcare said “The compassionate care provided to the less privileged, especially children, is true reflection of the society we live. Aster Volunteers is a platform that we established to help people in need through medical and non-medical interventions. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to reach out to children who have limited access to quality healthcare to ensure they have a healthier tomorrow”.
Dr. Khalid Abdelwahhab Al-Khajah, Executive Manager of Human Appeal International (HAI) was extremely glad to be part of this initiative that drew attention towards resilient and inclusive healthcare to children. Thanking Aster Volunteers and Medcare Hospitals & Medical Centres, he said “Effective collaboration is key to better healthcare and reform. These children were in need of proper checkups and advice. This medical camp was structured in an ideal manner to serve as a better model of care”.
Emphasizing on the importance of providing safe and compassionate healthcare services to all, Andre Daoud, CEO of Medcare Hospitals & Medical Centres said “With compassion, excellence in patient care can not only be achieved but sustained as well. Meeting and elevating this benchmark has always been our objective at Medcare. This belief also drives our commitment to bridge the gap to provide all communities with easy access to high quality healthcare. This also fueled our drive as a healthcare provider to host this medical camp for children who deserve a safe and healthy life which is pivotal for their growth and development”.
Aster Volunteers is a programme that was established to unite people from all walks of life and create a positive impact on the society. The volunteering efforts under this programme are broadly divided into three categories – Aid, Belong and Coach. Together, these three pillars help drive medical and no-medical initiatives to bridge healthcare access between the haves and have-nots, while upskilling children for a better tomorrow.
