Dubai, United Arab Emirates - October 01, 2019: During this Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Aesthetics by King’s College Hospital in Dubai Marina is pleased to announce they will be offering a free consultation on breast reconstruction for women who have undergone a mastectomy.
Making the announcement, Dr Adnan Tahir – Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at the clinic stated that breast still remains the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women.
“Although there are multiple risk factors involved in developing breast cancer treatments, the standard treatment worldwide still remains early diagnosis and awareness, followed by the possibility of a surgical procedure which includes the removal of either the entire breast (Mastectomy) or part of the breast (Partial Mastectomy),” he explains, adding that depending on the severity of the cancer, subsequent radiotherapy or chemotherapy might also be needed.”
Psychological Impact After Mastectomy
According to Dr Adnan, the personal and psychological impact of breast cancer cannot be underestimated and is tremendous. “Most women and men who undergo a mastectomy usually suffer from low self-esteem, loss of confidence, and depression. Additionally, the complex treatments involved can add to the patient’s anxiety.”
Breast reconstruction, on the other hand, aims to address most of these issues by creating a breast and restoring volume and symmetry where necessary. “By doing this, the patient regains some of the confidence and self-doubt she had lost during her fight against breast cancer,” notes Dr Adnan, adding that there are numerous studies available that have highlighted the benefits of breast reconstruction in improving the psychological and physical well-being of an individual who has gone through breast cancer treatment and breast reconstruction.
The free consultations with our board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeons will be available at Aesthetics by King’s College Hospital in Dubai Marina at The Residences Marina Gate 1 – Podium 1.
