Last Update: Sunday, September 2, 2018 : 15:40 (+4GMT)
Dubai, UAE, September 02, 2018: In line with the hotel’s environment conservation programme, Centro Sharjah has joined the movement to make the world a better place by eliminating use of single - plastic straws in all its Food and Beverage outlets. Centro Sharjah will now provide guests PLA (Polylactic Acid) straws as an environment-friendly alternative.
PLA straws are made from renewable resources such as corn starch or sugarcane and they are compostable and bio-degradable in nature.
“Taking this step not only manifests our support in caring for the environment but it also allows us to spread awareness to our guests and encourage them to support the global drive on environmental sustainability.” General Manager Michael Kasch. The hotel is also in the process of implementing environment-friendly packaging for take away meals.
Additionally, the hotel is sensitizing the importance of environmental sustainability among the colleagues. In collaboration with Averda, the colleagues have gone through awareness sessions on recycling and waste management.
“Our hotel colleagues have gone through awareness sessions on improving recycling practices and reduction of food waste that they can implement in their day to day operations and away from work. We are also encouraging a sustainable environment at work stations. For example, colleagues working in the offices are encouraged to bring recyclable water bottles rather than using plastic water bottles.” Michael Kasch says.
