- Seven students from the Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi learn about technology made in Germany
- Wintershall supports the trip for the fifth time now and actively contributes to the scientific and cultural exchange between Germany and the UAE
Abu Dhabi, August 01, 2018: Seven Emirati students from the Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi with different engineering backgrounds started their study tour in Germany supported by Wintershall on July 29.The trip will be concluded on August 4 and focuses on technology made in Germany. During the tour the students get to know new solutions of the German energy economy, cutting edge technological study approaches as well as new exploration and production methods for oil and gas. The students will also learn more about the use of oil and gas in the chemical process visiting BASF, Wintershall’s parent company and one of the biggest chemical production sites in Europe.
“It is the fifth time now that Wintershall has welcomed students from the Petroleum Institute in Germany”, says Dr. Uwe Salge, General Manager of Wintershall Middle East. “The trip is a great opportunity for the students to gain insights and to closely learn from the history and expertise Wintershall has with more than 80 years of experience in the exploration and production of oil and gas. This will help enriching their studies and knowledge on how to efficiently manage natural resources. Developing the local expertise and supporting the ‘next generation’ of Engineers is a key objective of Wintershall worldwide – also here in Abu Dhabi. We will need those young and innovative talents to shape the future of our industry.”
The young Emirati nationals will get the chance to visit various locations in Germany during this eight days’ trip. They have started their journey of discovery by visiting Wintershall’s offices in Berlin where they learned about the company and what makes it a trusted partner to develop projects in the United Arab Emirates.
Afterwards they will visit different educational and research centers to learn more about the recent studies addressing energy topics before reaching to Barnstorf, a German municipality, where they will visit Wintershall’s operational centre and discover how the company explores and produces natural resources.
The students will also travel to Ludwigshafen in the South-West of Germany to get to know Wintershall’s parent company BASF – one of the world’s largest chemical companies. Thanks to its scientific cooperation with BASF, Wintershall is a pioneer when it comes to technological expertise “made in Germany” for the oil and gas sector.
The cooperation between Wintershall and the Petroleum Institute emphasizes the importance of the Middle East region for Wintershall, which was the first Germany E&P company to open a representative office in Abu Dhabi in 2010. By sharing its knowledge and expertise with locals, Wintershall engages beyond the traditional oil and gas sector and actively contributes to the development of excellent research and innovation centres such as the Petroleum Institute.
If you would like to follow the different stops during the eight days, have a look at Wintershall’s online platforms. On Facebook and LinkedIn, the participants will share their experiences with daily posts.
