Skyline Book Fair Attracted Hundreds of Students

Sharjah, UAE, April 29, 2017: The 2-day Skyline Book Fair 2017 organized by SUC Library Department headed by Mr. Sheik Maideen and supported by Sharjah Book Authority has successfully attracted more than 300 book lovers and students from different schools in UAE and 85 students of which have participated in the Young Poetry Writing Competition and Story Writing Competition on April 18-19, 2017. The Chief Guests of the event from Sharjah Book Authority were Community Outreach Officers, Ms. Hanan Abdullateef and Ms. Eman Ahmed.
SUC has been continuously carrying out the mission to promote the importance of book and reading in the country when UAE announced the “Year of Reading” last year. This advocate has inspired the university more to spread this awareness among young minds as a way of training them early, get them acquainted with the practice of reading and later on turn reading into a habit. In this 2-day event, the students have not just engaged themselves into different books brought in by invited vendors but also participated in the Young Poetry Competition and Story Writing Competition. The two competitions have two categories, the junior (Grade 5-8) and senior (Grade 9-12). Winners of the Young Poetry Writing are Tarana Edwards of Dubai Scholars Private School for junior category and Munazza Anjum of The Central School Dubai for the senior category. Winner of Story Writing are Shaswata Sampath Kumar of Primus Private School and Sara Rashmiji of The Central School Dubai bagged the Story Writing titles for junior and senior categories respectively.
SUC has witnessed an overwhelming participation of different schools, SUC faculty members, staff, and students in the Skyline Book Fair 2017. This initiative of SUC to raise awareness on the importance of reading in everyone’s life is expected to continue in the coming years with the hope to expand in a larger scale not just in the premises of school but throughout the region.
