Sharjah Science Museum hosts annual event for families, children and students from April 26-28.
SHARJAH, April 27, 2016: Award-winning Emirati inventor Ahmed Majan was the special guest at Sharjah Science Museum’s annual Science Day.
Mr Majan displayed some of his incredible inventions, including a solar-powered ‘smart’ horse saddle, to hundreds of families and students at this week’s three-day event.
Science Day was an opportunity for members of the public to take part in interactive shows and activities that learned about how fireworks put on their colourful display, the history of telescopes, the science behind 3D imagery, and much more.
There was also a competition between school students to unveil the top scientific innovator among them, and showcased some of their best displays and inventions.
Manal Ataya, Director General of Sharjah Museums Department, said: “Science Day was a wonderful opportunity for children and adults to learn about science in a fun and interactive setting. It was great to see young people taking an interest in science and being inspired by such a role model in Ahmed Majan.”
Mr Majan is the genius behind inventions including a solar-powered saddle that keeps track of the horse’s health, a solar-powered GPS for bicycles, a remote control for fishing nets and a smart trap for ducks. He has won multiple awards at prestigious events including the International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva.
Highlights of Science Day included the evolving technology behind powerful telescopes and how they impacted breakthroughs in astronomy.
Meanwhile, an exhibition on 10 leading scientists showed how their inventions have impacted our lives today.
One of the most interactive features was an exhibition on 3D imagery with visitors experiencing the wonders of virtual reality. School pupils got the chance to display their science projects, while older students faced off in an innovators competition.
The Last day of the event will end with a spectacular fireworks display held in partnership with Sharjah Police. Visitors will learn about the combination of different elements that create such a colourful display.
