UAE, June 11, 2016- The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has announced the opening of registration for World Summit Awards 2016’s ‘The World’s Best Interactive Contents’ competition, organized by the International Center for New Media based in Salzburg, Austria. The TRA has called on government entities, organizations and individuals to register for the competition at its website on or before June 30, 2016. The competition encourages individuals to submit applications that positively contribute to increasing knowledge as well as serving vital sectors such as health, education, trade and tourism.
TRA experts in electronic services and systems will serve as judges and will evaluate the submitted applications to choose the most distinguished projects. TRA is responsible for coordinating the Award in the UAE which aims to reward notable organizations in the country that have shown excellence in crafting e-content for mobile and tablet applications to advance the knowledge economy.
H.E. Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, Director General, TRA, said: “The UAE’s participation in World Summit Awards which includes around 174 countries reflects our country’s active participation in global competitions and our desire to become a leader in all sectors, including information and communications technology (ICT). The UAE received numerous awards during its previous participation in the same event.”
“The TRA is committed to supporting organizations and individuals showing their innovation and creativity through practical digital media applications that help achieve TRA’s strategic goals of promoting an electronic lifestyle in the country as well as contributing to technical, economic and social growth, all of which are essential in a successful knowledge-based society,” H.E. Al Mansoori added.
The TRA is urging mobile and tablet application e-content developers from private and government entities to share their creative ideas in the competition through its website. Various international organizations and agencies will join the competition to choose the best e-content as well as innovative ICT applications.
The competition includes eight categories reflecting the world’s most important social issues: Government & Citizen Engagement, Health & Well Being, Learning & Education, Environment & Green Energy, Culture & Tourism, Smart Settlement & Urbanization, Business & Commerce, and Inclusion & Empowerment.
The Award committee will evaluate submissions from hundreds of international nominations from participating countries, from which 15-18 e-content will be chosen. Only eight winners will have a chance to display their websites’ contents during the Award’s official ceremony to be attended by the world’s most prominent ICT experts, industry leaders and government representatives.
The World Summit Award - The World's Best Interactive Contents is a global initiative which supports the development of the local e-content industry and drives creativity especially among the youth, encouraging them to build knowledge that positively impacts society especially on vital sectors such as health, education, tourism and trade, among others.
The TRA, which has been actively participating in the event in recent years, will coordinate with the Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Centre on a joint initiative to host the World Summit Award Mobile to be held in Abu Dhabi on February 2017.
